Dr Innes is a world renowned expert in restorative dentistry. He often teaches general and specialist dentists in Australia and overseas on various areas of restorative dentistry including dental ceramics, ceramic crowns and dental implants.
Restorative Dentistry is the art of rebuilding or replacing one or more teeth. This is necessary when there is substantial decay, if the tooth is badly worn or if the tooth has been fractured.
There are a variety of ways that the team at Bright Smiles can help you restore the function and appearance of your teeth:
Crowns
A crown is an artificial cap that fits over the top of a worn or broken tooth. Matching the colour of your existing tooth, it improves the strength and appearance of the tooth. Each crown is custom made to fit the individual tooth it will be placed on.
Dental Bridge
A bridge is a way of replacing a tooth by attaching a replacement false tooth to a ‘bridge’ between the natural teeth on either side. It is a strong restoration that looks and functions just like your natural tooth.
For example, a bridge can be used to replace a tooth lost to decay or trauma, to close gaps between teeth, to correct malocclusion (incomplete jaw alignment), to provide a fixed or removable replacement for an unsightly tooth, or to restore an existing tooth to its original shape and function.
Veneers
Veneers are false fronts that go on your teeth. These very thin panels are made from porcelain or ceramic material. They are bonded to the front of your teeth and are made to be exactly the same colour. They are very popular for ‘filling in’ a gap between the front teeth, repairing teeth that have been chipped or discoloured or changing the shape of misshapen or misaligned teeth.
Veneers are popular because they are relatively quick and easy to apply. There are no long term problems with veneers, but you do have to remember that they will eventually chip, crack or break. In addition, if you are unhappy with the veneers and want to change them, it can be a long and painful process. Veneers are also not the most cost effective option.
Implants
Implants are replacement teeth attached to titanium screws implanted into your jaw. For more details on dental implants, click here.
When it comes to crowns, bridges, veneers or tooth restoration, Dr Innes knows his stuff, having completed a Doctorate at the University of Adelaide in dental biomaterials (specifically dental ceramics). He often lectures to dental students on the topic.
